on being sick

I'm back in Kalamazoo this weekend, again.

Mac wrangled a promise out of us many months ago, that she would be able to come back for the football game between her old school and their big rival.

So here I am, again. I'm hoping this will be it for trips back and forth for a while.
The kids need to settle into their new home and enjoy their new school and cheer for their new football team.

Mac was so excited on the trip over yesterday. I know that because she said "I'm so excited!" like 20 million times.

And I'm sick. It's either a really bad cold or the flu. I didn't feel that bad when we left IL yesterday but by the time I got here I felt horrible. I ended up cancelling all my plans to hang out with girlfriends. Bummer.

My friends that I'm staying with are great. I have a cozy little room up in their attic and I just went straight to bed. Mac is staying at a friends house and I'm hoping doesn't need me too much.

I swear this is better than being at home. If I was at home I would not be laying in bed. I would still be cooking and cleaning and running all over. My family doesn't really understand that mom can get sick. They understand that they can get sick and mom can take care of them but not the other way around.

That's why I always like it when they get sick first.
If they get the crud before I do, and they suffer through it for a while, then they are a little more sympathetic when I come down with it.

If I have it first, they just expect me to keep on doing what I normally do. Can they not see that I'm sick by my bloodshot eyes, gross runny nose, sneezing, coughing, nasty nasally voice when they ask "what's for dinner?" or "can you drop me off at the movies"? If I were them I wouldn't want my gross sickness anywhere near me or touching anything I might eat. But they seem clueless.

Then they get sick and whine, and complain "Oh I'm so sick...you have no idea how bad I feel" and I think 'umm yeah, I actually do, but I still had to drive your butt all over town and make your dinner and do your laundry ect ect'.

But I rarely works out that way.
I'm going back to sleep now.
I don't have the energy to be witty today.
Have a great weekend!

I hate being sick, but your are right, most Mom's get zero sympathy. I hope you feel better soon and try to have a nice weekend!

I'm sorry you're sick! I hope you feel better soon. How nice though that you are able to get some pampering out of it. :)

Fluids. Fluids, fluids, fluids. Gatorade (or that G2 low-cal stuff) best. You need to drink it, tori, even when you don't feel like drinking it--keeps you hydrated. The "hangover", i.e. recovery, after the flu leaves you is from dehydration and lack of fluids. Avoid the hangover by drinking now. Hey hey, why am I telling this to a nurse. :-)

Oh, and no more promises to go to Kalamazoo. You live in Geneva now. Simply tell your daughter, after her wonderful weekend in Michigan and you drive by that "Leaving Kalamzoo" sign, "Did you have fun, honey? I hope so, because this is the very last time in our lives that we are going to ever set foot in Kalamazoo." Usually best to just state it as a fact; takes the debate out of it. :-)

You're a great mother and blogger and Geneva (not Kalamazoo) resident. Get well soon!!!!
