things like this make me angry....

I was doing a little blog reading this am and Pam over at Pam's Perspective was talking about the crazy news this week.

Now I'm a little riled up.

One of the things she talked about is the story about the weather balloon fiasco yesterday. Click on her site if you live under a rock and have no idea what I'm talking about.

IF this was a hoax, I'd like to ask the parents a couple questions......

IF this was a hoax, did you think about the danger that hundreds of people were put in because of it?

IF this was a hoax, did they think about the pilots of the helicopters who were asked to fly to help rescue the boy? Did you think about what you say to the families of the pilots if one of those helicopters crashed?

IF this was a hoax, did they think about Denver International Airport and the hundreds of people who were on aircraft that day that could have been in danger of running into that balloon? Or did you plan on a nice sunny day just in case? How would you have face thousands of family members if a plane had crashed because of this?

IF this was a hoax, would they have allowed the crazy rescue ideas to be put into action, putting even more people in danger? Or would you have said enough is enough?

But there are even more issues that are of course less important...

~the cost of these rescue operations
~the cost of closing down Denver International (or rerouting traffic)
~the inconvenience of thousands of people who were delayed

I'm sure there are many more issues we know nothing about.

I'm hoping that when they investigate this, they do a thorough job. This guy seems like he is a pretty good actor.

I heard on the radio this morning that this guy was on wife swap or something and they were on Larry King Live just the same evening this all happened. Seems a little too coicidental for me.

I'm with you - I hope they investiage and thoroughly!

I really hope it wasnt a hoax because really that would be the dumbest thing ever. Thousands of lives were at stake as everyone was put on hold because of it.

Did you see the interview MSNBC did with the family right after everything and the little boy said something like "you told me it was for the show"? Yeah, sounds a little suspicious to me!

Hi dropping by from Chicken Nuggets of Wisdom. I saw your comment saying you ranted with no comments. well looks like I'm a little late but here to rant with you nonetheless.

when my coworker told me about this yesterday, I started laughing. and this was while we still thought the boy was in the homemade-freakin-balloon. yes I'm that evil. b/c I was thinking WTF were the parents doing while this kid managed to get inside and then take off in this thing. AND why did they make this balloon thingy anyways? who does that?

well every point you make in your post is right on. this did put lots of people in danger, and that family should be ashamed of themselves if it was a hoax.

I absolutely agree with everything you said. I officially decided this was a hoax at the point when a reporter asked the dad if he was going to ground the child, and he said, "we don't ground our children, but I am going to talk to him" What?!?!? After the military helicopters and the 5 different police departments who sent out search and rescue teams and the shutting down of the airport, you are going to talk to him....really!

My theory is that he couldn't say how he was going to punish the kid, because the kid would have protested and said something like "no fair, I just did what you told me to do!" and then the guy's cover would have been blown!

Yep. Total pointless, dangerous, ridiculous hoax.

You make some excellent points. I'm anxious to see how this story develops. Thanks for linking to me post! I appreciate it.

Some people are idiots (and I'm not the type of person to use the term *idiot* lightly).

I'm just happy that the little boy was hiding in a box in the attic and not in the balloon.

Crazy story.

ooh that does sound interesting! I've got a stack of classics (Dracula, Treasure Island, Frankenstein, Alice in Wonderland) on my shelf to read - if only there were more hours in the day.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A Colorado official said Friday there's no indication a family was carrying out a hoax when they reported their 6-year-old son was in a helium balloon that floated away from their home, causing a frenzied rescue effort before the child was found hiding in the garage.

"We believe at this time that it was a real event. Certainly people are free to speculate," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said. He added that if the episode "turns out to be a hoax, we will seek restitution by whatever means we have available."

I was just listening to that on the news and I want to punch that guy in the face. That showed zero intellect when he opted for that stunt.

I agree with you, I was an emotional wreck, I first couldn't believe it, I cryed, I prayed, now I am just mad. What are these people thinking. I hope this was not a hoax, but it sure is looking like one!

Didn't the kid slip up and say something that made it sound like his Dad planned it?

Happy Saturday Sharefest. Stopping by from SITS!! Well I really hope this was not a hoax cause we followed this story until he was found. Not sure what to think about it all so I guess we will find out soon enough through the news but if it was then I think they really should do something to this guy.
Well I hope you have a great weekend
