The Hubby and I are sitting alone in the living room the other day watching TV.
I don't even remember what we were watching. I don't really watch much TV. Hubby always has control over the remote. I'd rather read a book or some blogs or something.
This commercial came on for some toilet paper roll thingie. It spins on the wall so you can instantly change it so the flap of toilet paper is hanging either "over" or "under".
The Hubby gets my attention "hey look at this" just before they show it.
Hubby says "Did you see that?!"
I say "Yes....that is brilliant."
He says "We would never fight over how the toilet paper hangs again!"
I say "When have we ever fought over that?"
He says "I don't know. Which way do you like it?" (he should know this because I'm the ONLY one that ever puts a new roll on. I always find it sitting on top of an empty roll. I've asked him several times how come he can be in there forever and not just put a new roll on...)
I say "We've been married twenty years and you don't know? I like it to hang over the top."
(I also confess that in the past I've gone to peoples houses and changed it to the way I like it...you know, maybe they've never tired it that way and then when they see what they are missing out on they will be like "wow! this way is so much better" and then I will have made difference in the world....come on, don't tell me you've never done this.)
He says "Hmmm, I like it to hang over the top too! Maybe that's why we get along so well and have been married this long."
Yeah. I'm sure that's it.
Ace doesn't seem to have a preference.
I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the fact that I never ask for the TV remote.

I personally am an over the top guy.
You know.
For toilet paper...
...and other stuff.
We'll not go into that.
I love it. And yes, I've done that at other people's houses before. I kind of feel like I'm doing a good deed. =)
This article really hits home with me. First off, I like it to roll over the top. My wife prefers it to roll out from the bottom. Secondly, I am the ONLY person in the house who actually puts out a new roll. I can't tell you how many times I've gone into the bathroom to find an empty roll still there. They use the last of it, let the empty roll there, and just leave the room. GRRRRRRRRRRR
I can honestly say I have NEVER thought about which way I put the tp on. And I do it all the time. In fact, Bob and I are the only ones who know the secret code to putting on a new tp roll... at least I assume that's why none of the kids can do it. But really, I never thought which way it goes on.
Hang on, I have 4 potties, I'll check...
Okay,
2 overs, 1 under, and one sitting on top (17yos bathroom -- I didn't put it on)
I always put it over the top. No one else changes the paper. I don't understand it either. And the worse thing is that in the master bathroom the holder is one of those swinging arm things that you just slide the roll on. You can't put it on top of the old roll. So hubby will put the new roll in the dirty clothes basket that is near the toilet. Well, at night I can't see it! So I assume there is no paper and have to turn on the light and go find some! Grrrrrrrrr.
definitely ove the top in our household...lol, the pic of the dog.
So weird because the hubs and I were talking about how this is a such a big debate with married couples....neither one of us pays any attention....we just put it on however!
As long as it's there when I need to wipe, I'm good.
This is one of the funniest threads I've ever read! I wonder why it matters so much and then again, I'm an avid "over" the roll girl. I have even gone as far as looking "down" on the "under" the roll people! Now that's crazy! Thanks for bringing this all up for me, Tori! Seriously, by the number of comments, this is something people must like to talk about! Thanks for posting, you are so funny! ~E
I like mine just sitting on the back of the tank! LOL
Ok, we seriously just had this conversation with a bunch of friends during a football game. Clearly, only the "cool" people know how tp is supposed to go. OVER! I will change the roll no matter where I am. Thanks for bringing such a topic to light. Thankfully my husband and I agree.
HA HA! ..the dog. That is so funny! That toilet paper roll thing sounds like a good invention. :)
Tori,
You write about things that I think about all the time. LOL
Toilet paper, that is put on to hang under, is one of my pet peeves. I have to confess that I have changed it in other houses too. I don't usually alter things in other people's homes, but this one gets to me. It's the same for me with paper towels. Under just DOES NOT make sense.
Jerry would disagree with me on this subject, but it doesn't really matter, because living with four men I am definitely the only one who changes those empty t.p. rolls. How hard is it?
That is hands-down the best photo on the internet.
I totally don't care, unless the roll is left empty. Then I am not happy.
Ace is a riot.
I always figure people put it under is because they like to make life hard...and they're cheap.(Hard to spin and get a nice handful when it goes under.) In the middle of the night when I stumble in the bathroom, I only have to make the TP spin. But when it goes under, I have to fumble around to find the end. See, you are doing everyone a favor when you switch it~! And the dog appreciates the easy spin, too.
Over is the correct way, and saves toilet paper too! :)
I must be in the minority. I like it come from underneath. And I admit that I've changed rolls, but I think mostly in my own house. I can't think of doing it somewhere else, but I won't put it past me.
Over the top all the way. I too have changed other peoples rolls. I tried to show them the light on the subject. Hubby is either way and more often than not leaves one square left so I have to do it.
I like it over the top, too. And your dog there? Could've been my dog. He's not a puppy anymore (he's 5), yet the magic of the toilet paper hasn't lost its appeal yet.
Over the top. I was at a friend's house who is an "under". Her TP had a design on it, which of course, was upside down. I switched it to over the top. Later when I used her restroom again, it was under again. I'm ashamed to say - I switched it a second time. ~Wendy
